We will take a look at how landscapes have evolved over time and look at current practices as the pertain to green landscaping. Melissa will present down to earth solutions and attempt to demystify what is meant by green landscaping all the way from the big picture of public landscapes all the way down to intimate home gardens. Learn what you can d to not only maximize the green potential of your own garden but also how you can influence the public debate for greener spaces with in our communities.
Melissa R. Marshall, ASLA, a Partner of MTR Landscape Architects, LLC,
brings to her clients a passion for creating elegant and beautiful landscapes,
the results of which can be seen at public gardens, parks, campuses, and
private landscapes across the country.
She has particular expertise in planting and design, having worked with
horticulturists, gardening societies, and botanical institutions throughout the
U.S. Melissa has been a Partner-in-Charge at Missouri Botanical Garden, St. Louis, MO; Botanic Garden of Western Pennsylvania, Pittsburgh, PA; Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden, Belmont, NC; Fallingwater, Mill Run, PA; Phipps Conservatory, Pittsburgh, PA; American Horticultural Society, Alexandria, VA; Powell Gardens, Kingsville, MO; and Shaw Nature Reserve, Gray Summit, MO. A Project Director for Chicago Botanic Garden, Glencoe, IL; Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver, CO; Bloedel Reserve, Bainbridge Island, WA; and the U.S. National Arboretum, Washington, DC. She has also done Garden Design for Herb Garden at Inniswood Gardens, Westerville, OH; Sensory and Victorian Gardens, Missouri Botanical Garden; Kaufmann Memorial Garden, Kansas City, MO; and theCircle Garden & Enabling Garden, Chicago Botanic Garden.
Missy’s leadership is demonstrated by her position on the Board of Directors of the American Horticultural Society. She is also on the Botanic Garden of Smith College Friends Advisory Committee. She is a member of the American Public Gardens Association, and has presented at APGA annual conferences.
